What does Local Accountability look like at the elementary level?
✨ Building Bright Futures at Straub Elementary ✨
At the heart of our elementary program is a simple promise: we build great readers and mathematicians — intentionally, transparently, and with joy. When students gain strong reading and math skills, the sky truly is the limit. 💙💛
We use trusted, evidence‑based resources and routines, including:
--> HMH, OG (Orton‑Gillingham), Reading Mastery, and Amira for literacy
--> Great Minds for mathematics
This work may not always be flashy, but it is the core of Local Accountability — consistent, research‑backed instruction that drives long‑term success.
We’re proud of the foundation our youngest Royals are building: confident readers, thoughtful problem solvers, and lifelong learners. Thank you to our Rock Star educators — and to our families and community for your continued support! 🌟

This is what authentic, hands-on learning looks like at MCMS! 💙💛
Students in our Royal Route Pathway classes recently showcased their learning by designing and creating projects such as custom clocks and original board games built around integer rules. These projects weren’t just creative—they were deeply connected to learning standards and real problem-solving.
Students then stepped into the role of experts, presenting their work to community members and our 6th grade students. During their presentations, students explained:
🔹 The learning target and connected Kentucky Academic Standards
🔹 The most challenging part of the project
🔹 How they overcame those challenges
🔹 Something they are proud of
🔹 A goal for next time
What stood out most was the confidence, ownership, and reflection our students demonstrated. They weren’t just showing what they made—they were explaining how they learned.
This is the power of Pathway learning at MCMS:
✔️ Student voice
✔️ Real-world connections
✔️ Creativity + rigor
✔️ Learning that sticks
We are so proud of our students and thankful for our community members who took the time to support and celebrate their work. 💙

We want your voice: after the spotlight series we’ll send a short survey to families, staff, and students to gather ideas and feedback. What have you experienced or seen that supports vibrant learning? What would you like to see more of for our students and community? Share this post, watch for updates from your school, and look for the survey — your input will help shape vibrant learning across our district.

The Kentucky Department of Education has submitted a new statewide accountability system to the Legislature. If it’s approved, our community will gain meaningful flexibility to help shape local accountability—what success looks like and how we measure it here in Mason County.
Over the next 6–8 months, Mason County Schools will be working to inform and involve every stakeholder. Expect:
-Regular social media updates
-Short surveys to gather your input
-Community committees to help design local components
-Town halls for open conversation and questions
We invite — and need — your voice. Join us as we build an accountability approach that reflects our values and prepares every student for their future.

Before even starting their final year, this incredible class has already earned over 700 college credit hours. With projections showing our seniors are on track to earn more than 980 additional credit hours before graduation, that’s a record-breaking total of over 1,680 hours earned while still in high school.
