Pre-Requisite: Prior Instrumental Experience and/or Approval of the Director

An instrumental music class with the emphasis on String and Full Orchestral literature. The focus of the course is violin, viola, and cello, string bass and piano performance experiences. The Orchestra presents numerous programs and festivals during the year, including the accompaniment for the Spring Musical. 

The class focus is the study of orchestral performance with supporting activities incorporating musical styles, music theory, music history and the humanities. Students may participate in the Piano/Midi lab during the class setting. Students with wind or percussion instrumental experience may participate in the course provided they have a desire and ability to perform and learn orchestral literature. Students shall study the Arts and Humanities core content in support of the music repertoire. 

Major performances include: Fall Fiddle Fest, Holiday Gala, Spring Concert Series and Spring Musical Production.

The orchestral class will include required activities outside the regular school day.

  • Non-Traditional Day

    Non-Traditional Day assignments are to be completed as below. 

    Day 1: Music Journal: In paragraph form, discuss your musical experiences over the break. Include performance opportunities, concerts you attended, along with music you listened to. 

    Day 2: Complete the Interval and Key signature worksheet. 

    Day 3: Read and answer the circled questions on the Romantic Period.

    Day 4: Read and answer the questions on the Renaissance Period

    Day 5: Read and answer the questions on the Baroque Period
